email accounts for clients

ok heres what i want to do

i want to create email accounts for each customer during registration and allow them to read, compose email using their browsers. simply put, i need to provide them with a web based email account (like hotmail)...

can i do that with imap functions? is imap_createmailbox enough? 'cause i just read a post confusing me a lot...

if this is true, what is the point my host (using linux systems) offering me unlimited pop accounts... i cant create accounts for 1000s of members manually...

today, i read lots of tutorials telling me how to access existing accounts, none of them indicating this issue regarding creating email accounts...

i would be glad if someone could help me...

Hi,

I think there is one solution but I don't know if your host will allow that. If the mail servers allows to manage/authenticate users against ldap and you have the privileges on that ldap server you could create new accounts by adding the appropriate data to the ldap server.

It depends on the mail server and what type of user database it supports. Most of them will use the unix users as mail users. You'll then need root rights to create new accounts.

I think, as long as you don't have your own dedicated server it could be very difficult to do what you want.

How do you create accounts manually ? Through a web interface ? In that case you might be able to create new accounts with the curl library functions (if activated) provided by php. But that could be a rather complicated task.

well, i can add accounts using cpanel, and the clients can access these accounts by following the link [url]www.blah.com:2095...[/url] without even visiting my site... which is completely undesirable...

the issue that confuses me is that if i could do it by cpanel through a web interface, i should also be able to do it with php...

this tip might be helpful for you. It describes how to add pop accounts through cPanel via php. It's not very much code but it might be sufficient for your needs 🙂

yep, i downloaded cpanelmail.zip and started to examine the contents of php pages... i will just add similar codes to my pages. i think this is the only way for me to do it...
