imagecreatefromjpeg failure @ large images

Hi.

When I try to use the imagecreatefromjpeg function on large
sized images (2000x2000 px), I get the alert:
imagecreatefromjpeg: '/tmp/phprMxfNP' is not a valid JPEG file

I doesn't matter how big the filesize is:
400 x 400 pixels with 100 kB works.
2000 x 400 pixels with 80 kB doesn't work.

Is there a failure with the GB lib installation?
Any ideas what I could do to fix it?

I found out, that there isn't a clear barrier of pixels that causes
the problem. If you have a scare, 1275x1275 pixels is the biggest
you can use.

Those are 1625625 pixels.

More pixels can be reached if you have longer images.
(4096x400 are more pixels, but doesn't cause a problem.)

So I think it's not a limitation set on the server.
Does anybody knows those failures? Can someone help me?
