Link activation

I know this has been asked a thousand times, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I am looking for a function that will take some text, and activate any links in the text. An example would be turning this:

www.phpbuilder.com is really cool!

Into this:

<a href="http://www.phpbuilder.com">www.phpbuilder.com</a> is really cool!

But if it could also find http://www.phpbuilder.com or even phpbuilder.com that would be a plus.

you can search the board cuz it has been asked a thousand times before, or you can try your hand at regular expressions , that is how the task is accomplished
