[Resolved] variables and that globals setting?

Howdy. 🙂

Got a question regarding variables:

for some reason they are not being passed from a form to the php page.

I read anoher post with similar topic. They resolved it by changing the register_globals = on. This solves my problem to however, what security issues (and how serious) can be caused by turning globals to ON.

also, how else would you get around this? And, how since the webhost provides PHP server would I be able to pass variables from forms (windows server)?

sorry if I have neglected to notice something. 2nd day with PHP.

You can retrieve your forms variables using $GET['name'] or $POST['name']

Basically the security risk, is when reg_globals=0N you can get GET variables instead of POST variables and you can't tell the difference and someone may be trying to spoof your code.

You can also use:

extract($_GET);

This allows you to get all of the variables without having to individually define them all each time.

In other words, if your URL is:

http://www.foo.com/foo.php?foo=1&fubar=Yes

Then the above extract statement will produce the following variables:

$foo=1
$fubar=Yes

Either way works fine, and it's a matter of preference.

Right, DeltaRho, but be careful if you're using it with $_POST; say you've got form vars, much better to test each individually, isn't it?

If you're in a while() and one of the values in the POST array is NULL, that value may not overwrite a previous value, so I've been told....
