regarding MySQL performance

I would like to know, would there cause a big impact of having >40 datafields in a single table?

But, when I do selecting, specific field will be stated in the select statement. So my concern here is, would there a big impact to the select statment?

Any advice? The prupose I am doing it is, I don't want to break into few table for admin purpose.

There's certainly an impact on performance when you do a "SELECT * FROM table ..." with 40+ fields in one table.

I don't think it will have effect on your performance when you just select a couple fields at a time.
