Select column names only

Hi all,

This is a very simple question, and I know the answer is stuck somewhere in my brain but I can't think straight (too early in the a.m!) so I wondered if someone could help me out.

I am connecting to a database, selecting a table, and now I want to select not the records, but all the column names within the specified table, so I can output them into a drop-down form field, populated using a loop. I know how to do the loop etc - I just cannot for the life of me recall how to select only the column names (and not the records)

Can anyone help?

You don't mention which DBMS you're using.

MySQL? [man]mysql_list_fields[/man]

Generically? Select a row from the table, fetch it as an associative array, and look at the array's keys.
