SMS? Email? Any difference?

I was just reading this thread and wondered about this.

I've had 'web-to-phone' on my site for months, using [e-mail], or somesuch. Is that not SMS? The only pages I found that looked applicable at Google contained pictures, not whitepapers. Is that what the world is coming to? :rolleyes:

what you explained dale is what i would call SMS anyway, i use cellular one for my sms, they have one on their site, i believe it is asp though, haven't been there in awhile

That's what I thought. The general flow of my script is just:

?who are you?
?didya spell it right?
?you're really a customer?
?ok, then....?
<? mail($me, $msg); ?>

...so why would someone be looking all over TFW for a script?

Oh, well; we both know what it's like around here...

Ahh - the beauty of having a phone provider that will do that FOC for you...

Some of us "less fortunate" souls have to pay for such things...

Hence the reason we need these free SMS services - like lycos for example.

I'm just sulking because not only did someone no STFW, they didn't even STFF but I guess another rant is out of place here. At least for now.

Course, whether it's free is another matter. All these people ... expect everything to be free ... who's going to pay for all those microwave dishes and all that optic fibre is what I want to know.

Well, I possibly was out of place ... I didn't find that forum thread, either (possibly didn't look :rolleyes: ). I did spend some time on Google. The forum thread, however, did more for me that most web pages I found on the subject.

Fortunately, my phone provider has an SMTP gateway.

Ahh free... Or should I have said - why should we pay overinflated prices ?? Imagine... You could have bought an LP (yes that IS vinyl for those of the CD era) for about £5.00 BRAND NEW, yet when the re-release comes out - you would have to pay £14.99 for the privilege - for someone to place the master tape in and literally press record !!

Same for the mobile phones, why should we pay higher prices for just being on a pay as you go ? If I decided to go on a contract, instead of paying 20p per SMS, I could pay 4p !!! But because I don't want that, and would like to pay out only when I want to, I am penalised.

In that respect I do want the free service as I am already paying for the infrastructure behind it by paying the standard overinflated prices as set by the major companies.

And another thing - they are now thinking of taxing the people who use pay as you go.... So when you buy your £20 phone card - for £20 of credit - you will now have to pay about £23 for a £20 credit !! You wonder where the money for the infrastructre will be coming from to support the people that use the free service ?

Rant over and done with now....
