MySQL query to list per day stuff (statistics stuff)

Hey

I'm pretty sure that this can be done through the MySQL query, but I don't have the manual or know exactly what to search for online so .. I figured I'd try the help board again.

What I want to do is to make a list with how many entries there are in the database Per Day.. and then I also want Per week kind of thing. But I'm curious for how I should do this the easiest way.

Any help would be appreciated it cuz I'm clueless what to do and sorta stuck.

You mean how many entries were ADDED to the db in a given day?

$result = mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table_name WHERE create_date >= '$start_date' AND create_date <= '$end_date'");
$row = msyql_fetch_row($result);
echo("There where $row[0] records added between $start_date and $end_date.");

that should give you the idea.

I want to then out of that mySQL query make a listing like this:

Mon: 120 Hits
Tue: 142 Hits
Wed: 118 Hits
Thu: 194 Hits
Fri: 184 Hits
Sat: 172 Hits
Sun: 150 hits

.... How would i do that?

and if I'm in the middle of the week, I only want to display Monday through whatever day I'm standing on... not a week back. So what script would it be in order to detect the first day of the week i'm in.. umh. Would I have to do a bunch of IF statements?
