Prevent new page loading on form submit

Is it possible to prevent a new window from opening or page from loading (or re-loading) when a form is submitted? Just want to submit the form and carry on with the current page (no re-directs, no confirmations etc.).

PHP is server based, which means NOTHING can happen unless you submit the form, and get a new page.

well when you submit a form it has to submit to some page, perhaps if you explain what it is you're trying to do , we can help you out

I want to send some form data to a php script that will e-mail me that data, I don't want to change or reload the current page or pop up any new window. I suppose what I want is that the form is submitted, the php script processesses the data and sends the mail, but then stops before trying to send a new page back to the browser in response. Do I perhaps need something like window.execCommand('Stop') immediately after the form is submitted?

well what do u want to happen after the mail is sent ???
something has to happen, even if its just a blank page, it cant just stop cause the page is loaded only then does the php code execute so a response is already sent to the browser.

read up on the CURL libraries, something there might help you out

I still need to do some testing but I think I've worked it out.
in javascript...
form.submit(); // to a php script
window.document.execCommand('Stop'); // to stop the browser progress bar.

The php script contains the line
header("HTTP/1.0 204 No Content\n\n");

Most places just pop up a small window that does the processing, then closes itself in the body onload.
