Calling executable file from PHP

Hello Friends,
I want to call an exe appliction from PHP code can it be done?
There is a one file call egg file which runs only in eggviwer both the file and eggviwer executable are there on the server in the same directory .I want to give a link so that when someone clicks on that the egg file will directly run to clients end using the eggviwer of the server.Is it possible?

If i give the following code
<a href="javascript:window.open('AlbumDemo.egg');">Click Here</a>
Then it shows me the dialog box with the option open/save
when i click on open it runs the file insted if I directly want to run the file without asking for open or save is it possible?
