Data traffic on website

I have hosted my web portal on a server with shared hosting.
Data tranffic on portal is exceeding the given limit of 18GB/month.
I also monitoring the hits on my website.
The hits are not too much. So, it should'nt exceed this limit.
What were the possible reasons for exceeding data traffic.
Things in my mind which can be reason are.
1) There are songs which user downloads and then play.

What else you think, be the reasons.
And how i can improve it.

Break it down... 18GB per month is 500 Mb per day. If a song averages even 1 Mb (and probably is more than that, right?), then 500 downloads a day would do it. That's on top of "normal" traffic, like images on your website, etc. It adds up pretty fast, believe me!

well... you might consider setting up your own server. Other than that, you're probably just going to have to pay your provider for more bandwidth.

Bandwidth restrictions suck, but they're mainstream no matter where you go. Your best bet is to get lower-filesized songs, which, unfortunately, means worse quality.

lol... yeah, that too. I took the high road and assumed that he's only making songs available for which he has permission. After all, since they are now going to crack down on individuals, he's be crazy to offer pirated songs on his website!

Thats only in the US tho... I think, don't think there doing anything bout it up here yet.
