Printing varialbes in a <textarea>

I have a table which contains "notes" for customers. The note is entered into a <textarea> field and inserts fine into the table. My question is, when I want to edit these notes I can get everything to <?php print $variable;?> in the text fields but
<textarea><?php print $note;?></textarea> will not print the note into the text field to be edited.

Hope I explained this ok and the html code isn't perfect but I am just trying to give you the gist!

Well, can you <? print $notes; ?> anywhere else?

Post some code? use [ php] and [/ php], sans the spaces, please...

Yea the print works with everything else (with text fields it will print the value of the $note) but i need it in the textarea. here is the textarea code. I do have the value of $note b/c I can print it outside of the text area.

<textarea name="note" cols="50" rows="5" id="note"><?php print $note;?></textarea>

All that should do is print the $note in the textarea.

?>

<form>
<textarea name="note" cols="50" rows="5" id="note"><?php print $note;?></textarea>
</form>

is working fine here....
