reverse auto_incremenet

Hi all,

I am writing a script that will display a variable number of available positions (it's a gaming thing) which ppl can apply for. What I need help on, is the syntax to subtract a number from the available positions each time someone signs up. So for example, if I have a field in my db called "pos_avail" (positions available) and I enter 10 for the 10 vacancies, what I want this field to do is decrease with each application. So 1 person signs up, and the field's number decreases to 9. Almost like a reverse auto_incremenet.

Any ideas on how I would do this?

Im not sure how you have set your database.
But when someone signs up just update the field.

so.

mysql_query("UPDATE tbl_name SET pos_avail = pos_avail - 1 WHERE feild = 'post'");

You dont need the where, but if you have multiple records in that table you'll need it.

Well, you can always compare this value with the number of records in the table.
