How to change order in a table ?

Not sure I honestly understand. Why do you want to change the order of the table. While designing your DB the col names should be the way you want them. When you ret out of the database, you can use order by to organize the records and vars echoed in any order you want them (or don't want them) displayed.

Well, it is a list of cities and the admin would like to be able to change the order of them anytime. :rolleyes:

Are you talking about changing the DISPLAY order, or the STORAGE order?

the first is fairly easy: Add a colum which holds the display order, and query.. order by displayorder.
The other: DON'T. You will mess up the integrety of your dtabase if you start messing around with the storage order (And therefor the identifiers).

Sorry about the confusion, I do mean the display order on the screen to the user/admin.

My trouble is this: Let's say that the admin want the third city in the list moved to the first place, or 7:nd place etc.

Or he want to add a new city, to be displayed somewhere in the midle.....

Hi,

You could use what I suggested: A colum which holds sortorder.

Then if you need to change the order, you do a bit of querying, where you select all 'cities' where (sortorder =gt $newposition_of_changedcity) and (sortorder lt $oldposition_of_changedcity)
and change their sortord to sortorder+1 for cases where the city is moving üp"te ladder (from 15th to 2nd place eg) etcetc for other changes.
