comparing 2 db's

Hi,

Problem : I have a client with a rather complex DB which requires regular updates. He has a slow/expensive internet conection and wants to update his DB localy via a cms running on his own machine (apache installed).

I then need a solution that can compare his DB locally with the DB on the web host & perform the required updates/insertions.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in right direction. How best to compare any two tables and update one to reflect the other.

Hi,

For smaller databases (Few hundred entries) which have low traffic I usually make a mysql dump and replace the whole database.

The other thing you could consider.. IF the user is updating via a shell you wrote.. You could consider loggin all the edit commands he gives to the database, and export those to a batchfile?

I also thought of deleting the affected tables & dumping / replacing... but think there is probally a more efficient method somehow.

Hi,

I had a look at mysql for mirror, raid and that did not give anything really usefull..

The other option is of course to add a timestamp to the databaseand somehow extract those rows affected after a certain date, and create an update batchfile from that..
