DSN-less ODBC connection to mySQL

I am trying to set up a php/mySQL connection, but the server is using WEBppliance (Win NT 5, IIS) and only allows a DSN-less connection via ODBC. The help files state:

The database connection is a DSN-less one and is established using ODBC. The database can be accessed and written to using ASP/PHP scripts.

The asp example connection string given as an example is:

strConnection = "driver={MySQL Driver}; server=<domain_name>;uid=<siteadmin_name>;pwd=<passwd>;database=<database_name>;option=NUM"

But I have been unsuccessful in making this work.

My regular php/mySQL connection string works fine on other servers, but not here.

Does someone have experience with this, can you give me a working php example to look at?

so what you really need to know is how to write a manual connection string?

yes, I need to know how to write the connection code. For example, I usually use the following php code to connect to mysql:

mysql_pconnect("localhost","user1","pw1")

or, for odbc I would use:

odbc_pconnect("dsn_here","user1","pw1")

However, the server says I must use an ODBC connection, yet DSN-less. I don't know the php code (not asp) for that.

well, thanks for all the helpful replies. maybe this was too basic of question, but it was not for lack of prior research. dsn and dsn-less connections were both new to me, and I tried everything suggested in any tutorial or post I could find, to no avail. Nothing worked. After several days diligent research, trial and error and banging my head up against the wall, I finally found my own answer which I will post here, just in case anyone else runs up against the same issue.

Ensim's WEBpliance system has a bug - only the appliance administrator can set up the mySQL database, which is mostly done automatically with a script. In some cases, the permissions are not granted to the user, thus no access. I found this info at Ensim's forum - here's a link to one post referencing it. There are others as well.
