what is «br /»? it's «br» in HTML!

why do I keep seeing «br /» in PHP generated HTML?
what's the difference between that and the formal HTML «br»?

<br /> is the XHTML 1.0 (HTML 4.01) compliant version of <br>. In XHTML, all tags must have an end tag. Single ended tags like BR can just embed the end tag as shown. Also works with input, hr, etc. (an tag without a separate end tag).

You should try too keep your HTML code up with the current standards UNLESS it breaks a significant portion of your web pages for client using older browsers. Making your HTML XHTML (or XML) compliant means that XML parsers (not necessarily browsers mind you) can grok your web pages. You should browse the World Wide Web Consortium for more information. They even have tools that will test your pages for compliance to a particular specification.

(OT) It was either my shiny new Les Paul or my '78 strat. I choose the LP because I'm basically a humbucker man. But the action on my stat has yet to be equaled on any guitar I've ever picked up. The only "gripe" with the strat is the original single coils are so damn noisy.

If I ever find one that's right, my next guitar will be a Angus Young style SG. The quality among SGs seems to vary a lot. Most of the SGs I've handled played like cheese graters (very poor action). But I can hardly justify more guitars as I hardly ever play. But I do enjoy it when I do play.

And I only answer posts where I'm pretty sure I know the answer or technique the poster needs (or think I would know if the poster clarified their question). But having a nice interesting Guitar avatar doesn't hurt!

Now edward seems to be se so worried about action as I'm about getting the temperature down in my apartment. (I bet edward measure's the scripts parsing time!

I can tell you that my TELE has got an action like just there with no fretting at all, bu I have it since November and I allready had 2 fret jobs (the kind of term that php-coders-not-guitar-players might take the wrong way, right?) just to make it perfect.

Well, my problem is how to get a decent drummer to join me and the bass player. I need to start playing real business again...
