How to ADD / configure text properly for mySQL when inserting a new db record

Alright I noticed that when I have say like a contact page...and I record it using a database (mySQL) that the text doesn't read or comprehends "enter" remarks. For example, say I went to the contact.php file and in the message textarea box I put this:

"Hello Jeff

How have you been?"

Well it will record "Hello Jeff How have you been?"

instead of

"Hello Jeff

How have you been?"

Is there a way to fix this issue?

just use the "nl2br()" function...

use it like this

$return = nl2br($input);

thats all...

before inserting into the db,
but it should work also after fetching the text from the db...

Use it when you are fetching the result from db. The newline is there but you cant see it.

example:

$query="SELECT message FROM table";
$res=mysql_query($query);
while ($row=mysql_fetch_row($res)) {
echo nl2br($row[0]).'<br>';
}
