starting a DB with auto inc. at 100000

as we all know, auto inc starts at 0 and works its way up.

For an invoice system im working on, i want it to start at say, 10,000 so that invoice numbers are not just '4' for example.

if i manually insert a record with id of 9,999 and then delete it, will the next be 10,000 or will it go back to 0 since there never was a 0?

You could try:

ALTER TABLE tablename AUTO_INCREMENT = 10000

I've never used this myself though, only looked in up in the mysql manual so even if it does work, it may only work for mysql.
