dynamically inserting images w/out a database

I could really use some help. I am trying to put together a photography portfolio online. I want to only have to drop the images in a folder and then have a page that reads the folder and pulls the images and displays them with thumbnails.

I am having a hard time figuring out how to read the folder and files then displaying them. I want to be able to just ftp the photos and forget about it. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at the manual regarding readdir() http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.readdir

Basically this
