header command

Hello,

Just wondering if someone could help with my local php configuration.

For some reason if I download my site to my computer none of the Header redirects work correctly. I have ob_start() and ob_end_flush() on all the pages that use Header. I am assuming that there is something wrong with how I have configured php locally.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

Check to make sure you don't have any white space characters - spaces, tabs, line-breaks - before your opening <?php tag or after your closing ?> tag.

It is possible that your FTP program added some... correct me if I am mistaken, anyone.

You can try this because I had the problem when I upgraded to the newest version of PHP.

Thanks for your reply.

I have discovered that much of the problem is associated with the fact that header calls www.domain.com/page.htm

Is there anyway to tell the local machine that www.domain.com is really localhost. I guess this would envolve dns etc.

If you are on a Windows box, make a file called 'hosts' (no extension) in the %windows% directory (usually C:\Windows) and put the following in it:

127.0.0.1 domain.com
127.0.0.1 www.domain.com
127.0.0.1 more-sub-domains.domain.com

Most of the time you can just use relative paths in calls to header() too, ie header ("Location: /file.html"); instead of header ("Location: http://www.domain.com/file.html");

Probably the best bet is to replace all instances of www.domain.com with a variable, like $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']
