ok, i know thats maybe a newbie question, but i searched the forums and didn't really find what i was looking for... maybe i did but didn't recognize it. 😉

ok, i wanna find out the ip-address of someone who opens my webpage.

i used this one

$user_ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];

but i think it's the wrong one...

anyone knows it? can't be too hard, i think. 😉

$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] is correct.

It may give misleading information though, since IP addresses can be masked (etc)

hey j0sh,

IF you used that one, and you're not sure if it's the right one or not, then just try it out

echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];

and see what it outputs. If it outputs your IP, then it'll work.

Just try stuff out and see what it does. That's how you learn.

don't worry, i tried it before i posted here! but there happened some strange things when i tried it on different servers... anyway, it works now.
