converting string tabs to html tabs

Hey!

I have a bit of a problem. I have a piece of text stored in a mysql table and when I display it, the tabs that were in the text dissapear.

I solved the problem of the line breaks dissapearing by using
nl2br($string);
, but i'm still looking for something that will keep the tabs as well.

Anyone?

Is there such a thing as an HTML tab? How are you doing HTML layout? Tables? CSS?

What about

$text=str_replace("\t", "     ");

By using echo"<pre>$string"</pre>"; it works! it gives me the complete format the text was put into the database.
