Apache problems

Hi,

I'm been experiencing some problems with my server lately.
Apache suddenly hangs, and when I'm stopping httpd I get like 50 of
these errors;

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: kill: (1114) - No such process

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem ?
(when I get this message my server is than almost out of memory!)

Hi,

which OS do you use (including possibly installed patches) ? Which apache and php versions ? Did you compile apache and php yourself or install them as package ? What hardware setup do you use (memory, number of CPUs ...) ?

One more thing ...

do you have any "got signal 11" error messages in the error_log of apache ?

I did not have an signal 11 fault
Only segmentation faults.
I run Apache 1.3.27 and PHP 4.2.3 with 256 Mb Ram on a P3 800.

I didn't locate the problem yet, but I got it so far that I'm now stable at 80 mb free memory and it hasn't hung for 2 hours now,
but memory is shrinking slowly ! Hope you can help

Which OS do you run (I think it's one of the Linux distributions) ?
Did you install any additional apache modules besides php ?
Did you install apache and php (and maybe other modules) as packages or did you compile them yourself ?
