whats a good book for a php newbie?

I have no coding experience. I know html and I want to learn php before C++ and the others. What is a good php book you reccommend that explains the basics really well, and just doesnt jump into the hard stuff. Thanks 🆒

For me I read "Essential PHP For Web Professionals", by Chris Cosentino.

The material would be fairly out of date by now.

Try books published by SAMS or O'Reilly, I think SAMS has a "Learn PHP in (insert # here) hours" book.

Once you can start writing simple PHP scripts, head over to php.net and read the PHP Manual.
Download a copy too.

I read (and still do once in a while) PHP: Fast and Easy Web Development. Its probably about 2 years old now but covers all of the basics from a simple hello world script to simple SQL. php.net is a life saver too.
