Loading text from a DB - Why does it load in a clump of text, not holding its format?

We're working on a site that has both an HTML page and a Flash page. We are loading text content from Access (I know, I know) and on the flash page, it loads visually, the same way it was written to the database. However, when loading it in the HTML, it loads as one clump of text and isn't spaced out.

Any ideas?

have a look at nl2br also could do a search and replace for any group of spaces more than one space long and replace every space after the first with an
