how to use com in php?

really it wud be great, if anyone have this reply for me...
How to use com object in php?
i've written like:
$word=new COM("Word.Application") or die("Cannot start word for you");
...
...
...
but with a error:
Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: com in ..../com_use.php on line 2

thanx for having me to drop in such a valuable feedbacks,
i got the point, but this error that given is about using the object, not about opening the document, after get it done, i'll try to open/write/edit data, but first i want to get meself easy in using COM.

actually i'm first in using this COM object, i tried things, but the main error is:
"Cannot instantiate non-existent class: com in ........."
where to declare to make it working?

then again i'll start trying different coding in the same.

Are you sure that Word is installed on the server ? If not - then you get that error....

actually i'm using linux server, where .so files are functioning, and i think COM is related to .dll files which are in window server.

i tried it in window server, its functioning, but not in linux,
whether it possible to run it in linux anyhow?

actually its my thought, i dont know properly? great helping me.

Ahh - and therein lies your problem...

The COM functions are for Windows servers ONLY.. they will not work in Linux....

thanx, really for hailing my confidence,

yep, my thought is going true, but is there any way in linux, not by COM, but by other methods,
and one other thing, how do i create a dll file, register it and use as a library in php in linux serevr, as i love to work in linux server.

the dll file contains only a factorial function, and i want to use that to have a result by giving a no (say 10) in php file, w/o having seen my logic,

as linux supports so files instead of dll, plz help me out,
new in this field..

ne suggesstion wud be great.
