[Resolved] Mail() function help

When I use the mail() function, the text that is sent in the e-mail is plain. Is there a way I can format it in PHP before I send it? I would like to bold some of the sentences.

HTML makes things bold; not php. What you'd need to do is set the proper headers to send an HTML email. Use the following headers:

$headers  = "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n";
$headers .= "Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1\r\n";

I copied and pasted your two header lines into my code and then added the $headers variable into the mail function. I put one of my sentences as bold and when I received the e-mail, it was still in plain text.

This is how I bolded the line:

$message .= "\n<b>This message was sent by an account that does not accept e-mail. Do not try to reply - your messages will be denied.</b>";

And this is how I added the variable to the mail function:

mail ($to, $email_subject, $message, $from, $headers);

This is what I got in the e-mail for that line:

<b>This message was sent by an account that does not accept e-mail. Do not try to reply - your messages will be denied.</b>

What am I doing wrong?

$from is a header, not a seperate variable from the headers. Delete the $from variable all together and do it like this.

$to = "bla@domain.com";
$email_subject = "Subject Goes here";
$message = "hey <b>there</b>"
$headers = "From: [email]whoever@wherever.com[/email]";
$headers .= "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n"; 
$headers .= "Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1\r\n";

mail($to, $email_subject, $message, $headers);

And make sure you send valid HTML emails, many browsers / email progs won't display it as HTML if its not close to valid.

Okay - I have it working now. Thank you.

I have one more question though. When the e-mail is received by a user, it appears to be sent from '1.0'. I would prefer to have niffer@usco.com visible here. Is there a way to change that?

superwormy - what do you mean about valid HTML? What other kind is there? I am rather new at this so if you could explain the difference, that would be great.

Valid HTML is HTML that isn't Fvcked up. ie start with <html> tag, end with </html> tag is the big one, without that some mail progs think it's plain text.

Make sure you have the From: email@domain.com header in there so that it shows who it's from.

Ok - thanks. Hopefully I have it all set properly. One other note - I found out why the from field always contained the value '1.0'. The header declarations were in the wrong order. It should be:

$headers = "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n";
$headers .= "Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1\r\n";
$headers .= "FROM:<niffer@usco.com>";
