Should I save my homepage as PHP or SHTML?

Hi,
I have run a Bruce Lee fan site (bruceleecentral.com) and on the homepage there is a simple online poll. Anyway, in order to get the poll thing working I have to save the webpage as an shtml file. So, here's my question...

If I add a little bit of PHP action to the homepage (i.e., put up a few scripts), would I loose the functionality of the online poll (after all, it would no longer be an shtml page- it would be a .PHP page)????

You may, but then again, you could always re-work the Poll in PHP.

Or tell Apache to parse .shtml as equiv to .php?
