How do you code?

This kinda stemmed from a question I posted about using [man]ob_start()[/man] etc. Anyroad, my question is, how do you code your site?

Do you, for example, code a brand new page for each one that is going to be seen? Or do you have one main bit of page and [man]include()[/man] (do you like how I did that😃 ) other bits into it depending what the URL is?

Oh, and one more way: do you use dreamweaver and use its template functions?

I use UltraEdit for everything (plain-text editor)
When the site has consistent header/footer elements they are always included when possible

I use Macromedia Homesite Text Editor mainly cuz I like the color coding, and....

I have my own little rules about including, and that is if I am doing dynamic stuff (db stuff, etc...) I will usually include that since it is most likely gonna be on more than one page.

I also like to use the common Header/Nav/Footer includes, if the site is gonna get over 10 pages, otherwise a search and replace will suffice for me if its less, when it gets over that I will almost always use the includes.

Another note, I include all connection pages, just cuz it's simple enough to do and you don't have to track down a connection problem cuz you forgot to put it into the page.

Along with that, I generally get the site ready, cut it up and lay it out in homesite, when I have all the nav, graphics, etc... I will save that out as template.php and then I always have a nice clean page to start with.

Oh and btw, I don't care for Dreamweaver's templates, all it really is, is a glorified include, called .dwt.

I tend to use obviously different pages for different pages instead of disguising it.
I do use includes for the more common purposes though.

I dont use dreamweaver, so I dont use its template functions.

I either use win32pad or more recently, vim.
When not on my home computer I use whatever text editor or IDE is at hand, or download vim or some other text editor that I like.

i normally have some sort of Includes structure

DB class
Global file

which is included in all pages from there its pretty much normal. But im starting to use a templating class i made. So thats another in the include.

Different sites work different ways. Some I inherited as static HTML, whatever...they're mostly interlaced HTML/PHP/JS now...

But, I have a few sites that honestly are just about like this, on most all of the pages:

So I'd have to say, yeah, I use include() a lot...

Used to use DW templates, but the site got too big and now includes are my best friend. 🙂

Coding by hand is all well and good, but the web (at least in regard to major sites, busineses) is moving away from hand coded sites to CMS's (content management systems). This is a CMS offers easy updating, uniform page design and scalability with massive sites, which delivers a better image online.

I'm learning typo3 to do my future webpages in. It offers versatility and ease of use for people who are not HTML gurus to use. It creates dynamically generated pages based on a template system. Content is generated from a database and put on to the template dynamically as well.

You could compare it to php-nuke or xoops, but this system is so much more than that. It can be converted for use on almost any type of site design.

It is mindblowing.

Ah, you mean using templates 🙂
There's little point using Dreamweaver templates - what does that add except encouragement to use Dreamweaver for everything else? In what way would that be any better than any other templating system?
