Hello, I am new to this place. My name is Danny. I am a PHP and C++/OpenGL programmer.
I have few questions to ask. As you all might know, there are several commercial and royality free portal engines, or content management systems around. But while making a site for my company, and my web project, I actually realized that these systems are mostly not for buissnes or home sites, and the sites generated by them are very similiar one to another. Obviously, I started to develop my own site engine for use on our project sites. The engine is planned to be template driven, but different than most of the engines I have seen. The engine will be totally changable, with total layout control, and total content control. The difference between the template handling of my engine and the others is that I made a tags parsing engine which places certain links and elements on their tag on the template, and an optional box placement areas. Which means that you have far more control over the template, which you would not fully get with the "traditional" box-driven system. One of the questions that I automatically asked myself is: "Why are there nearly no other known and popular script software which does it like that?"
I think that the other coders are sure not stupid, and i'm sure that most of them are not idea lacking persons. So the next question that I might ask myself is: "So that type of engine has any problems or lacks compared to the 'traditional' portal engines?"
I made more than half of the engine and i'm on my way to completing it(Which means it will include among the other features: News, Articles, Downloads, Templates, User Management, Private Messages, Script Wrapping, MySQL and Flat File support, Full power admin panel, Module support and more). And I really want to know your opinion and possobile answer to my question. I hope that I won't waste your time for a not important reason)
Thanks in advance, Xakep_INC.
