php not reading php.ini ???

I was getting warnings related to sessions and, after reading some suggested earlier threads, I ammended the php.ini file so
session.save_path = c:\windows\temp

but.....

When I run
<?php
phpinfo();
?>

the path to php.ini is C:\Windows, which is fine,

but the session.save_path is still = /tmp ??

I'm assuming that php is not reading the ini file...
but how to make it so it does is driving me bananas!

Any ideas anyone???

Did you stop then start the web server after changing the file?

yes, ahundiak... I did stop then start in the apache monitor.. and the computers been turned off and on a few times as well.

Double check the php.ini you changed is the one listed in the phpinfo()...

If not - it will still use the other one...

Best bet is to only have one - and one as a backup of previously OK configuration as php.ini.bak

Let me just confirm exactly what should be where...

there is a php configuration file and a php ini.dist file in the php root folder.

then one php.ini in C:\windows (or should it be C:\windows\system32 ?)

Should that ini file be a copy of the config file or the ini-dist??

OK
1) Choose a php.ini file that you want to work.
2) Run phpinfo()
3) Check the location of the php.ini file in the phpinfo() information
4) Replace the php.ini in the location shown in step 3 with your copy.
5) Remove all other copies of php.ini.xxxxx to be on the safe side
6) Copy your php.ini from step 4 and rename in the php directory to php.ini.bak
7) Double check that there are no other rogue php.ini files anywhere, search for php.* and see what you have there.

The php.ini should be in your %systemroot% folder, be it c:\windows (win98/XP) c:\winnt (WIn 2k / NT)

ok.... done all of that, chancer...... and still php don't pick it up 🙁

I'm attaching the php.ini file

Just so you know where C:\www and C:\www\webroot come from..... I got apache, php and mysql in a 'Devside' package and their instructions told me to put all the files in a the path C:\www and the html and php pages that I create in C:\www\webroot .

Don't know if it's any use.. but I'll attach the Apache httpd config file as well!

Sorry about all of this... it's driving me mad, but it must be annoying you too!!

Still.. at least I'm getting to know my way around the php.ini file!

I once had this problem, but when I copied the php.ini file into the same directory as the PHP executable, something like C:\php\bin, it picked it up.

Worth a try.

ok...lost the " " around the file path... and also tried copying the ini file to the same file as the executable... no luck I'm afraid :¬(

MAybe I'm doomed to be forever PHP-less!

So I'm browsing the Newbie forum... and find a thread on session start.... and a reply that gives the URL

One of the posts at the bottom of this page suggests "giving the ini file what it wants!"
i.e create a \tmp file in c:\

Well....I did just that... and ..... I don't get any of those session errors any more!
But ... the form just clears and doesn't move on to the next page!

lol.. another problem solved.... another problem encountered!

Ok,

I checked the php.ini and the php scripts:

First of all remove the @ characters in front of the variables. I think you don't need them.
Second, I'd suggest to remove the get parameter from the action and use a hidden input instead, like

<form action="login.php" method="post"> 
<input type="hidden" name="do" value="new">

The most important part is that register_globals seems to be set to off in php.ini. When register_globals is set to off you can't access post variables directly by e.g. $do you must use $POST['do'] instead or $GET['do'] for get variables.
