Multiple entrys into one row (mysql)

How would I have multiple entrys, seperated by comma's, in one cell? I know I would use strtok(), or something of the like - BUT - how would I make it get every variable, than put it each into a new one, numbered accordingly (I.E.: the cell 'monsters' contains "Rat, mouse, cat, dog, boogeyman", and I want to assign rat to monster1, mouse to monster2, etc... And do that no matter how many entrys are in that cell, the number, after monster, of course will go up (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,...))

Any ideas? Has anyone actually done something like this, on this forum? (I wouldn't mind seeing the code 😉)

If this is based on user input, perhaps you could count the amount of commas there are in the input to find out how many items there are, lets say X. You could then make a loop that loops X times and adds X to monster for each word. EX: If a user input Cat, Dog, Mouse, Turtle you would count that there are 3 commas, which is 4 words since the final word doesn't have a following comma. Then make a loop that will loop 4 times, call the counter Y. Each time through the loop you add Y to the end of monster. Sounds complicated but I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to make. Might be an easier way also, but that's all I can think of. 😉

if you have a string 'cat,dig,rat'

use explode to get an array of these animals

$monsters = explode( ',' , 'cat,dig,rat' );

$monster[0]=cat
$monster[1]=dog
$monster[2]=rat

If you want different variables with these values do this

foreach( $monster AS $key=>$value )
{
    $v = "monster$key";
    $$v = $value;
}

Now you have
$monster0=cat
$monster1=dog
$monster2=rat
