Allowing URLS

Right i have a list of urls in a database.
I want to put a script at the top of a file which checks whether the url matches one in the database. If it does it shows the file if not it shows an error.
I can do that part with mysql_num_rows() however, if i add a url like www.mydomain.com and the address www.mydomain.com/board accesses the file will it deny it or is there a way just to use the hostname and ignore any of the address after the .com/.co.uk/.org e.t.c

i want the script to allow http://www.mydomain.com/thing but disallow http://www.mydomain.com/wrong
Both of these folders will exist.

so im looking for a way to grab the hostname with the first folder name automatically.

well you can just cut the rest of the url out. I mean check for the "/" and then when you have found it trucate the rest off

how would i manage that?

well i can give you some pseudo code if you want

take the string in question and look for the "/" symbol
if it exist then count the number of letters to that symbol
put it into its own variable
if that variable exists
trucate with variable in expression
else
if "/" does not exist then compare them to your urls in your database

actually you know what? it might be much easier to parse it and everything in javascript and then throw it into a hidden field and then pass it along. just a thought. sorry i dont have time right now to write the code for you. im having my own problems. i wish i could help you out some more
