hi

I set up the php.ini file with my smtp server info and my email address and when I try to send and email I get this error..

Warning: mail(): SMTP server response: 550 5.7.1 <[e-mail]>... Relaying denied in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\email.php on line 10

the php code I am using is

mail('[e-mail]', 'Test from PHP', 'I wonder if this will work');

?>

is this becuase of my smtp server, or am I doing somehting wrong... do you know of an smtp server I can use for testing?

Try adding the from parameter as well, as some SMTP's block the relaying of messages, but they might let it through if the return address is one of theirs.

try changing this

mail('[e-mail]', 'Test from PHP', 'I wonder if this will work');

to this

mail('[e-mail]', 'Test from PHP', 'I wonder if this will work', 'From: [e-mail]');

try that out your smtp server may want the From field

what would it look like if I added the from parameter? is that the same as adding the email to the php.ini?

I set up a SMTP server on my computer using POST Cast. I can send email through it using outlook, setting the SMTP server to localhost. but when I try to send it from php I get this error??

before you mucked with everything, did you look up about 2 or 3 posts and add the From: [e-mail] parameter
