Google and ranking

I am interested in exploring php, but am concerned about site ranking and visibility.

This is part of a note I got from Help at Google:

"The Google index does include pages that have question marks in their URLs, including .php and other dynamically generated pages. However, these pages comprise a very small portion of our index. Pages that contain question marks in their URLs can cause problems for our crawler and may be ignored."

Any comments?

I use php on every page of my site - over 5000 pages. Only a handfull have question marks in the url andt they are ones i dont want google to index. My stie is ranked #1 in google for my most used search terms.

Quite an interesting and humerous site I found today which demonstrates google's page ranking gone wrong.

Go to the google web site and type"Weapons of mass destruction" as the search. Click the "I'm Feeling Lucky Button" and observe.

NO NO NO. Go back and look again its not your average 404 error. Read the text carefully and you'll discover why.

drewk: there are quite a few threads that have discussed this subject in the past; you could try searching them for the keywords search engine (where the will allow searches for both "engine" and "engines". Wow, using a search engine to search a site for information about search engines - how self-referential...

I like usings URLs that look static even if the page is being dynamically generated. http://www.example.com/news/archives/1997/05/14/page3.html instead of http://www.example.com/news/archives.php?y=1997&m=05&d=14&p=3 sort of thing.

Exactly!!! Wow, if I now say "great minds think alike", I'd be giving myself too much of a compliment...
