HTML question

Hey all, been awhile since I been here.

Got a question, not sure if it really has to do with php, but I dont know where else to ask.

Using CSS, I can make a border around a table. Is there a way to have no border like on the top, bottom, and right side of a table? So just the left border shows up? And/or have a border go through a table cell? or is that even possible? prolly have to use an img background, but just checking.

Or remove a border from a table cell so I can put a pic there?
Also, alot of sites now have a line of dots separating sections in their site, its not border: dotted black 1px; That is still too big of dots. These dots just go down sides of pages like

Well, good old w3schools can answer your "I only want a border on the left" question, and maybe a few others.

As far as the border along the side with the dots, check their HTML, they may only be using images. If it's not images and IS css, once again check their code and view their included css file (it might be in a <link> or it might just be at the top in a <style>).

Yes, you can do this:

<td style="border-left:solid 1px  #000000">

That will make a solid black border on the left side of a table CELL. If you want the left side of your entire table with a border, then move the style="border-left:solid 1px #000000" into your TABLE tag.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean? border is the outside of a cell, it always has been. So how could it possibly go through a cell?

To remove border, simply go:

<table border="0">

That's the dashed, or dotted value of border. Do it like this:

<td style="border-left:dashed 1px #000000">

an example of having a border would be having <div id="larry"> with a border on the left.

in your .css you would have

#larry {
border-left: solid 1px #000;
}
