sql problem

$sql = "SELECT * FROM users";

    $row = mysql_fetch_row($result, $db);

    echo $row['email'];

mysql_close();

that is my code..

Warning: Wrong parameter count for mysql_fetch_row() in /home/a/public_html/sql.php on line 7

that is my error..

Shouldn't have the $db in mysql_fetch_row

Actually, that error was different, and means that the SQL command was wrong. It really wasn't though, you just referenced the wrong variable

$db = mysql_select_db("pinehead", $con);  

$sql = "SELECT * FROM users";  

$result = mysql_query($sql);  

$row = mysql_fetch_row($result);  

echo $row['email'];  

mysql_close();

See, here is my prob now.. It isn't displaying anything. I checked my db i have one row under the field name uname and username as the content in that feild.

However it is not displaying anything..

am i missing something in my scrip?

You could try putting a echo(mysql_num_rows($result)) or echo(mysql_error()) before the while {} loop. Not too sure otherwise. I assume it is connecting

Use mysql_fetch_array, not mysql_fetch_row

Hey, thanks, I never knew that mysql_fetch_row only associates numerically. I usually use mysql_fetch_array, but had tried to stick with what they was using. Learn something new everyday. It would have been nice(r) though if you declared why to use _array instead, I went to look it up. But thanks

Gee... sorry, does it look like I have "PHP Manual" written on my forehead though?

The PHP Manual explains what both mysql_fetch_row() and mysql_fetch_array() do just fine, there's no reason for me to be redundent and say it again, ESPECIALLY for a language like PHP, where we are lucky enough to have probably teh best manual of any computer language out there mirrored accorss like 500 sites AND available for download in multiple languages AND many different formats.

If you ask for help, then you are expecting people to help solve problems, not recite information that can be found in 30 bazillion other places.

The purpose of this board is to allow users to be able to read through, learn, and gain experience from other more experienced programmers. If I were a very new person to PHP, I would have appreciated knowing what was wrong with mysql_fetch_row. I know what an advantage PHP is over other languages, especially in light of the documentation availability and support in that regard. phpBuilder is a great source for help and the time people put in to help others learn is excellent. But, in seven seconds as compared to the time it took to write the 'rant', more users could have saved fifteen seconds each in time of searching for the function. "Use mysql_fetch_array, it's keys associate with field name, ..._row is numeric" It is one's own choice though, how they wish to spend their time whether it be reading, writing, or searching

The problem with explaining every little last detail to everyone, is that it just encourages people to NOT use the manual.

" Hey, I can just post my stupid, obvious question on the board instead of doing some actual work myself and looking through the manual for a function! "

How many times do people ask questions about register_globals, SQL ORDER BY statements, or how to use an array?

ALL of these questions are easily answered by some good, old fashioned research, either by looking at the PHP manual OR searching this board.

The LAST thing we need on this board is for more people to ask questions that have already been answered 30 bazillion times over.

It's a good life's lesson if you ask me. Not everythign can be learned by just asking the people next to you. What are you going to do when you reach the top of your field, when YOU'RE teh best programmer, and there is no one to ask yoru question to? DO THE REASEARCH, READ THE MANUALS, AND FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF.
