Passing variables through a url

With php3 and global variables turned on I could pass on variables using the following code on a page called index.php:

<a href="tree.php?CatName=Business_and_Economy"><b>Business & Economy</a>

</form>

With php4 and with global variables turned off how do I pass on variables to another page.

What laserlight was trying to say was:

in Php4 there is a new set of "super globals", these are

$FILES
$SESSION;
$COOKIE
$SERVER
$POST
$GET

These are all arrays

(hope i didn't forget any)

So where you used to have a var being passed in the url it can now be access using the $GET['var_name'] array, conversly if you are using POST then the vars will be in the $POST array

Oh and yeah read the FAQ's as well, this may also help

Thanks a lot. I got it done. The problem was that I was already accessing the variable from the first page using POST and wasn't sure that the script could also access the same variable from another part of the first page using GET.

Solved it using $word =POST[''];
if (!$word) {
$word = GET["];
}

etc etc

I am not a professional programmer.
