need help with rewirte statement

I added the rewirte lines in my .htaccess

DirectoryIndex index.phtml index.php index.php3 index.cgi index.shtml
Options +Indexes
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^{categories/(.*)/$} /index.php?cat=$1

also chnaged the a href to i.e

the links work fine and the categories variable are passing to other pages. The problem that I am having is that images in index.php page which is called from index.phtml or from index.php it self, do not show any of the images on the page it self. it shows images that comes from the database but not the logo or images in the page that are in the page design???

are you using relative addr's for the images?

because it can't find the images since you manipulated the urls...
you have to probably add a forward slash to the image urls..

so if you have you images in the webroot then make the image path like this:

<img src="/images/myimage.gif">

not like:
<img src="images/myimage.gif">

otherwise it will try to look for the images in a directory that doesn't even exists.

make a separate rewrite rule for images.

RewriteRule ^images/(.*)/$     /images/$1

<img src="/images/test.jpg/">

Thanks very much. This was my problem. Iafter I added the / to all the images they were displaying.

I have this link
<a href="//malldir.php?cat=$cat">Mall Directory</a>

I used this rewirte code in my .haccess
RewriteRule ^mall/(.*)/$ /malldir.php?cat=$1

I use this link on my page after the rewirte

<a href="/mall">Mall Directory</a>

I get page not found when I click on the above link.

<a href="/next.php?cat=$cat&pg=$pg&rowsfound=$rowsfound>next</a>
<a href="/prev.php?cat=$cat&pg=$pg&rowsfound=$rowsfound>previous</a>

how can I convert this link also

try this for mall.

RewriteRule ^mall/([0-9]+) /malldir.php?cat=$1  [L]

then you should be able to do: domain.com/mall/ID

as for the others, try:

RewriteRule ^next/([0-9]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]+) /next.php?cat=$1&pg=$2&rowsfound=$3 [L]
RewriteRule ^prev/([0-9]+)/([0-9]+)/([0-9]+) /prev.php?cat=$1&pg=$2&rowsfound=$3 [L]
