[Resolved] html not sending to php

Hi,

Im running redhat 9 w/ apache, mysql, php. ect.. MySQL, PHP and Apache all work very well. the php and html code have been tested on another server and they run perfectly. but on my server there are difficulties. So the problem is when post an html form and post it to php the php executes but it seems as if no data from html form is sent to the php b/c i did an echo $w/e; and it showed '0' this is why im assuming the php doesent recieve what the html sends it . so im also asumming the problem has somthing to do with one of the configuration files
if u woud like the source just request it and I will send it over

First, try this where it's supposed to receive/echo the contents of the form:

well that worked it outputed the correct stuff i think."Array ( [name] => s [email] => d [pay_email] => [address] => [city] => [state] => [zip] => [phone] => [master] => 1 )"

that kinda confuses me, I guess this means its a problem with php conf? phpinfo() wokrs fine as well as other things. so im all out of ideas
anyone?

You were probably trying to use $name, $email?

You should use $HTTP_POST_VARS['name']
or $_POST['name'] with PHP4.0.6+.

If that's what you entered then it's getting the data. Without sseing how you're trying to use the form-submitted data, I can only guess that the code doesn't match your configuration (except that the configuration would be right and the code wrong). To see, go over to the Newbie's forum, look at the FAQ at the top of the thread list, and have a read of Question 1.

why should you use $_POST['var']? i've always used $var and it works fine in PHP 4.2

On the newer vertions of PHP you cant receive var's from any were that arnt decered within the script. So:

var = "hello";

is ok but trying to echo out a form varable like this is not:

echo($form");

you need to do this:

var = $_POST['var']

echo($var);

it's not true that you CANT do that, it's just disabled by default for security reasons. most tutorials and books and stuff tell you to just use $[w/e] but that wont work generally anymore unless the host has enabled it (prob ur other server is an example) so the general practive now is to just use $_POST etc anyway.

And the only reason why register_globals hasn't been removed completely already is that there are still too many people coding in the old deprecated style. As soon as they seem to be in a small enough minority ... pfft.

It's sad when people still give advice here to use $elvis to access the contents of index.php?elvis=xxxxx.

It is a big security concern because you are allowing end users to inject values into your script any way they see fit.

Also, I think it is a debugging nightmare to code without clearly identifying post, get, session, etc. clearly, at least at the top of my code.
