A rather hard one... StrReplace outside <>

I wish to retreave a website, and change a few bits around like strings.... but how would I do this without edditing the code part... ie.....

<a href="http://www.ClickHere.com">ClickHere</A>

and I just change the 'ClickHere' bit, so it results as

<a href="http://www.ClickHere.com">Wow, it works</A>

Have a look at preg_replace().

Of course you are not stealing someones webpage. 🙂

I would also suggest downloading the manual to your PC and always having a local reference.
You must keep it updated, as I have found out recently. 🙁

I havn't tried this, so if it doesn't work you will still have to read the manual and have a fiddle for yourself.

So, bassicly, does it change var2 aslong as it's not in var1 (inside var3)?

What is are the bold bits for?

<a href="http://www.PaulsBlog.com">Today Paul went to the shops</A>, to buy some cheese. It was really good.

but change 'paul' for 'tom'... but not if it's inside any url or href tags.

Do you see what im getting at?

O why not give us all the info.

preg_replace( '\Steph\','Steph the Bitch' , $string );

You can use arrays on this function.

eg preg_replace( array( '/1/','2','3' ) , array( '1 the bitch','2 the dick' , '3 the man' ) , $line );

lol, sorry.

The \ makes it esscaped, so it does'nt think the var has finished (I think).....

If I remove it, get "Delimiter must not be alphanumeric or backslash " warnings..... sorry about being such a nub at this.

/edit The idea is to change it wheneva the next Pop-Idol / Big Brother type thing comes on the telly.

Cheers for your help, and I really apreachate it... but what about something like this...

<img src="url/evicted/jon.jpg"><img src="url/evicted/mick.jpg"><img src="url/evicted/Lyn.jpg">

As you can see by these pictures, Jon, Mick and Lyn have all been evicted off the show

If I replace 'Jon' with 'Jon the Twat', it will still replace it inside the img tags, and therefore create a broken image, this is what I want to avoid.

Ok.... let's give this a go.....

ovbously one 'item' (ermm... don't know correct word) of the aray (with the index 1) is as follows....

'/([^{]*)(Steph)/',}

' ', ' ' is for the next item.

( ) would be for a group of some kind, ie, $1 and the seconed one i[/i] being for $2 ?

Would the / / 's surround all the different ()s?

[^]* would be everything?

ermmm....

Therefore...

'/([^{]*)(Steph)(Sirname)/'} would also be $3 ?

....... am I close ?.....

I have to goto bed now, i've actualy called up the BB people asking permision to make a name-swaper for it..... worst comes to it and they say 'no', and i'll just do a few other things with it.
