[Resolved] Help!!

Hi everyone;

Yep a big time newbie here... I was going along fairly well when I came upon this error...

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ctype_alnum() in /home/httpd/vhosts/findatip.com/httpdocs/signup.php on line 79

What does this mean? And how do I fix it?

what version of PHP are you running, you need PHP 4.0.4 or greater for that function

well, like the error msg indicates, it means that you are trying to call a function that does not exist.
are you trying to edit existing code or writing new code.
you need to give more details / post your code

I'm trying to edit it. I am really doing this blind. I was just given this "project" by the person I am interning for. I am at a total stand still.

I am very new to PHP and I think this is a little to "advanced" for where I am in it.

I am not sure what the version is, because I am doing everything through a control panel/file manager. It may be php version 3.

I know I look like a ditz here..but I am really lost!

well STEP 1 : post the code that you are trying to edit

if it is for certain php version 3, you can't use that function til, like i said, 4.0.4

it would be first best off for use to get the version from him

save a page called phpinfo.php with only the following in it

<? phpinfo(); ?>

then go there http://youripordomain/phpinfo.php and look for the php version number, it will be right at the top of the page

I just talked to my "supervisor" and asked him the version (he confirmed it was 3) and told him that he woulod have to upgrade, so I am off that project until he does that.
