help with study

I am having trouble writing my own scripts...
I learned php at first starting weith no program knowledge and only wanted to edit PostNuke.. now I want to be able to develope my "OWN" programs and find it hard to do so...
Can somebody help me with ways I can learn? I mean I know the basics of PHP.. but Im lacking on some stuff... I guess.

Here are some quick tips.

1) Hang out here, and look for posts by the moderators.
2) Code consistently.
3) Download the php manual, as well as the mySQL manual.
4) Read the aforementioned manuals.
5) Plan everything out. Don't just start programming without visualizing and planning the end result.
6) Don't re-invent the wheel. Most everything you would want to do exists already. Don't steal the code, and call it your own, but learn from the good and bad in the code, and apply your learnings to your own work.
7) Don't hesitate to ask for help here. (But don't come in here asking for people to write code for you)
8) Bookmark the following websites (as well as others you find):

phpFreaks

I can use my character limit giving you more info, but this will get you started 😉

Oh, one more... Even when you are practicing, and have code snippets here and there, don't throw them out. Hang on to all of your code, because you never know when you are going to need that snippet in the future.

whats the best way of palnning, I think my thing is not planning good... how do you guys plan? Whos WeedPacket?

best way to plan... 🙂
try doing coding directly in front monitor for ur project...
u will discover how many mistake u can make... 🙂

anyway. give some time thinking..
- variable naming convention
- file naming
- process flow
- maintain coding style // don't include(''); and in another file include '';
- visualize how u want to do in ur mind first.
- how secure u want the web application be.
- how many files u want to produce.
- how fast u want the app runs.
- u preffer manageble code, or write once, forget then.
- etc... 🙂

u will need coffee or tea or plain water...

whats the best way of palnning,

1) Figure out what type of app you want to develop.
2) Find a similar app that already exists, and use it as a framework for your own app. (Remember, don't steal it)
3) Sit down with pen and paper, and write out the necessary table structure. Then, normalise the tables accordingly.
4) Write your code to be modular (so you can just insert it into an HTML template) This allows you to test the functionality without worrying about the aesthetics.
5) Ask questions here to find more efficient ways to do what you are doing with your code.
6) Write functions for repeated tasks... Don't keep re-writing the same code if you don't have to.
7) Find a good php editor, and stick with it. (Get a good editor with good color coding for php.) This makes it easier to see your mistakes as you become more familiar with the coding.
