Sending custom files as email attachments

I'm currently able to send email attachments of any standard type (JPG, TXT etc).

However, I now want to send my own file types that are basically encrypted txt files.

When I attach these though even though my filename is say:

myfile.hibt

It is still recieved as: myfile.txt

I've tried changing the Content Type around, but I've had no success.

Any help or hints are greatly appreciated.

btw - the unique extension is used with other desktop programs hence the reason that I want to lose the .txt extension.

is hibt a real filename extension...or is this something you just made up?

What are you specifying for the Content-Type: header? It may be the client is using that to guess an appropriate file extension. application/octet-stream is a generic type that doesn't give any hints about what sort of file follows.

vaska - As I said, it is a file extension I 'made up' for an application I designed. Essentially however, it is an encrypted text file.

Weedpacket - The content type is TEXT/TXT, I did try changing it in several ways but no luck. I didn't however try the way you suggested, so I'll give that a shot when I get home later today.

Okay; but your original type was wrong anyway; it should have been "text/plain".
