cron job?

Hello,

I have a website with a registration form. I am collecting those information and store them in mysql db.

I will have to send (email or ftp) those information in a csv format to my client daily at midnight. What is the best way to achieve this? I heard cron job is the way to go. I am not too familiar with it but have used it once before for a very simple task.

Any of your inputs are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

there are numerous tutorials on the web, here is a searched link from yahoo

this will give you a number of results, can't remember which one it is, but on the first page, there is a really good tut

oh, and btw, whatever they say, you don't have to use lynx browser to run the php page, you can use wget, have a look see and do some reading of those links and you will get it figured out

Thanks for the link, it's very helpful.

So basically my cron will call a php script right? But to do the attachment of the textfile and sending it or ftp-ing, what is the best way to do that since the filesize can be quite large at time and it might get timed out? I am just wondering if there is a better way of sending a large size email to many people that will prevent any timed out?

yes, cron will execute the script and whatever is inside.. you may have to put a shebang line at the top of the php script.. its best to use ftp and not email, it will not timeout because the server is sending it via ftp .. i have a shell script that automatically dumps my database and zips my webroot and ftp over to me at whatever time i want ..
