Greetings, I am trying to restrict everyone BUT 1 ip address from hotlinking files. I want the 1 ip address which is allowed access to be able to <img src=filename.jpg> hot link files like that while anyone else trying to do that will get access denied. shouldnt this work?

replace 0.0.0.0 with your ip.

Also if you hit google.com and do a search you will most likely come up with thousands of pages on the subject.

I can tell you that if you concern is hotlinking this won't work. Why? Well, what IP are you going to put in? Your server's? Your server is always serving the image to whoever wants it.

Your best bet is use .htaccess along with http referer. Basically you say that if the server asking for the document is not your site, bump em.

Again, hit google.com and you will find thousands of pages on this.

Hotlinking has been a big issue for many years so the resources on it are pretty built up.

Thanks for the reply Techlover that is exactally what I am trying to accomplish! I did some reading on .htaccess and put this together. I want to allow the domain specified the ability to hot link images using <img src> but if anyone elses server tries to <img src> my images they will be reffered to thanks.jpg. It should work I believe BUT I GET a 500 error, internal server error whenever i have the .htaccess file up on the server. I put it in the root www directory, should i put it in cgi-bin or something? mabey i should talk to my server host about this error? If something seems off please let me know, sorry this is a bit off topic from php!
