I realize that you are running a business with this site, but I find it very annoying to have something that I posted get converted to have advertising. I'm giving my advice for free and the content that is in my advice along with everyone elses on this site is what drives people here. Now I don't mind having my freely given advice surrounded by Advertising, I know you have to pay for things, but to have it converted to carry advertising is just plain wrong.

I hope that you will re-think this new 'feature' to your site and remove the in post advertising.

    holy shit is this annoying!!!

i think this is a bit extreme, someone really wants to make money off its members

you ask a simple question and the entire post turns into an ad infested page.

now they are turning what we post into an ad
    .. what next.

nice way to run a business ... php.net doesn't even have any ads, and none of this would not be possible without them. i dont mind one or two ads, but sheesh this is insane.

look even "php.net" turns into an ad.. good grief.

        So this==feature, !=hack || bug?

Stoopid me, I reported the first one I saw to the mods...

        Education time, I guess:

        net

        LAN

        hmm,

        well, I had to see, didn't I? 😃

Hmm, does this mean reduced prices from Redmond?

I don't like it much, either ... we'll have to see...

i'm looking into it, i emailed my admin to see what is happening, either it is a new ad, or the board got hacked

stolzy, now I see what you're referring to in your email.

Sorry, I added the code a few hours ago, but was under the impression that there were no keywords activated, so I didn't make an announcement at the time.

This is new ad code. I've passed this thread on to the people in charge of it's implementation, so this thread will be seen.

i agree. It's understandable that advertising needs to be done to generate money, but using the words people type as a form of advertisement is a bit much I think. It's confusing and frustrating. I know Jstarkey doesn't make the decision, so it's just general feedback. But imagine your email account doing that. Everytime you send an email to friends or family, it looks for trigger words and converts them to hyperlinks for advertising. It would be really frustrating, and people on the other end would need clarification. The way it is now, new people come to the board and don't know why people are posting all these subliminal ads in their posts.

                Thanks Cgraz,

Now every web mail system will start incorporating this technology, and so will all email clients comming from Redmond. 🙂

Yeah, I'm joking, but only a little. I've seen many things like this take on a life of there own. in a very short time.

                  Mine will not. 😉

God those things are annoying. If PHPBuilder is going to start going this direction, I'll be finding a new PHP forum real quick.

Is anyone else getting Javascript errors all over the forums as well?

Well, this one's real enough, and the "life of their own" is just the answer to "where do you want to go today...."

Dot NET ... here we come...

wow it gets even more lame, people names are turning into ads too.

Y'know, I haven't seen any of these thingies you're all talking about yet; have they already been turned off or summat?

(Of course, anyone with a memory that reaches back more than a few months would have predicted this reaction: remember when Microsoft showed off the new "Smart Tags" feature in IE6 and Office?

weedpacket: checkout the post in the team discussion board. there's some info posted there and you'll see the examples.

Nope; only thing I've seen is the screenshot a couple of posts up from her.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you... anything but. I'm perfectly happy for this site to be paid for advertising I don't see...

Well, as of this post I see some "Intellitext" around the word 'web' in cgraz's post up there...

It does seem that the routine only converts the first instance of a given term on any page load...

EDIT: Since this is first post on page two of this thread, it got me too!!

yeah like database, server, php.net, applications, Windows, etc..

wtf happened to my name 🙁

                                    oh the insanity!

when i first saw these i thought they were automated links to infomation about the subject, eg. web would take you to a page saying everything possible to learn about www

i dont like it, i definately dont like the fact its in peoples name aswell, especially mine

Yeah, I imagine that dotwebbie is having a similar problem.

As I mentioned in the "Un-Intellitext" thread here in the EL, it doesn't seem to be an issue if you use some alternate browsers --- I've tested Mozilla 1.3.1 on X*P...

I guess you could wait to post until someone had already used the word w*b in a sentence 😃

Ah, that would be why I don't see anything.
