Breadcrumb Navigation

Does anyone know of a simple way to create a breadcrumb navigation menu (like PHP Builder Community Forums > PHP Help > General Help) without using the Zend (http://www.zend.com/zend/spotlight/breadcrumb28.php) method of making an individual directory for each breadcrumb title?

I think I understand what you mean with the first part about putting the branches of the breadcrumb as rows in a DB, but I'm not sure what you mean by the table documents half.
