PHP too slow.

After about 2 weeks working on a PHP project, I was testing out some things yesterday and noticed that the PHP pages take forever to download, while the regular HTML files load much much faster (even if they contain much more content).

Any ideas of why this happens?? It happens to all the pages with PHP in it.

By the way... this lag started recently... before it would load pretty smoothly (I havn't added any new code).

this local computer or webserver?

maybe processor runing at 100%??

Webserver... I tried loading some test pages... such as a one that echo's the date and even that took a while too load.

That's interesting... seems like the PHP pages only load slowly when I try to access them from my computer (and only the PHP pages on the particular web server I'm working on)... they load fast on others.

Havn't figured it out yet. I'll post it up if I find out why this is happening.

A good test when you suspect server slowdown is to install a timer inside your code. That way you can determine whether the culprit is a recursive loop, a specific database query, the database connection itself, or just a general hosting service slowness.

The PHP documention for microtime() provides a helpful example:
